The talented young local musicians of the Hong Kong Plucked String Chinese Orchestra perform the concert series “Serendipity of Plucked Strings”. Their goal is to share traditional and contemporary Chinese plucked-string music, to enchant, educate and inspire the audience.

Chan Hiu-fung (Sanxian)
Chan Hiu-fung graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 2016, majoring in Sanxian under Zhao Tai-sheng and minoring in Pipa under Zhang Ying.
Chan first learned the Pipa under Wong Yui-kiu when he was in junior secondary school and began playing the Sanxian under Zhao Tai-sheng when senior secondary school. Chan won a silver award from the advanced group of a joint city competition in Hangzhou in 2012. In the same year, Chan became one of the “RTHK Young Music Maker”. During his study in the HKAPA, Chan was a recipient of the “HSBC scholarship” and the“Parson Music Foundation Scholarship”.
Chan has been a popular guest solo performer among local music organizations, including the Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra, the Yao Yueh Chinese Music Association, the Hong Kong City Chinese Orchestra, the Hong Kong Youth Music Society and the CCC and Music Friends.
Lau Mo-wah (Sanxian)
Lau Mo-wah studied the Pipa with Lam Siu King during her secondary school years and later started to play Sanxian with Zhao Taisheng. At present, Lau is a music student in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in performance in Sanxian with Zhao Taisheng and takes minor courses in Zhongruan and Pipa with Lui Kwan-on and Zhang Ying. To receive more advanced training in Pipa and Sanxian performances, she studied the instruments with the renowned Pipa virtuoso Professor Yang-jing and Zhao Cheng-wei in Beijing recently.
Lau has been an active performer in local Chinese orchestras and has performed with the orchestras in Macau, Shanghai, Wuhan, Jiangsu, Guangzhou and Japan.
Lau is currently a part-time instructor of the Music Office and a freelanced performer.
