Synopsis

This searing, frank and humorous drama about sex, abandonment and the cross-cultural challenges of being gay and Chinese in Western culture is one of the most powerful English-language dramas ever written about the gay Asian experience.
The play opens with Oscar telling Ming, his lover of four years, that their relationship must end because he (Oscar) is HIV-positive and he feels Ming is not strong enough to handle this new reality. “I want to take care of you,” cries Ming. “You can’t even take care of yourself,” retorts Oscar. The two then reminisce about their time together, talking directly to the audience about the joys, the conflicts, the sex and the betrayals, and they finally spin into the arms of other men as they part ways.
Enter two young men, Robert for Ming and Daniel for Oscar, who invest fully in their new relationships, believing they’ve found their life partners. But Oscar and Ming can never completely step away from their past relationship, into which they once poured all their hopes and dreams.
The 2015 run of A Language of Their Own at the Fringe Club was completely sold out, and this return engagement in 2016 is sure to be a very hot ticket.
