Synopsis
Original compositions, standard jazz tunes and Latin music, with special guest Tansei, who will improvise jazz tapdancing.
Tansei Nonaka (Tap)
Tansei was born and grew up in Tokyo, and is currently based there. Tansei has enjoyed dancing to music since he was a child, and he received intensive training in Japanese “Taiko” drumming in his late teens. In 2010 he encountered and started learning tapdancing in New York, and after 18 months of intensive training he became a professional tap dancer, performing in jazz bars there. At home in Japan he has performed in many established venues, including Motion Blue Yokohama, JZ Brat and Satin Doll. Tansei also performs tapdancing to flamenco, tango and many other musical genres.
Daisuke Takeuchi (Piano)
Daisuke Takeuchi began studying classical piano at the age of three and jazz piano at the age of 16. Not limited by jazz, he pursues all possibilities of music with his highly expressive performance with a wide array of melody lines. He performs about 260 concerts a year in Japan and around the world. Recent activities include a tour in China, plus gigs as a guest player with a Japanese tap dance trio (comprising a tap dancer, a saxophone player and a bassist) in Hong Kong in September 2014 and February 2015. He enjoyed the success of live music concert in Hong Kong. His piano trio has released four CDs, in which he mainly plays his own original songs, and his newest CD, “Voyaging”, was released in 2015, quickly reaching No.1 chart online sales in the jazz category.
Nate Wong (Drums)
Nate Wong has a degree in music performance from the Berklee College of Music, and was the head of percussion at USFO College of Music, Berklee’s largest sister university, in Quito, Ecuador. He now lives in Hong Kong, and his fingerprints are on virtually all parts of the local music scene. He is currently the drummer for famous pop superstars, and has worked with some of Hong Kong’s most renowned musicians and groups, including Eugene Pao, Jezrael Lucero, Pee Moore, Hacken Lee, Eugene Pao, Ted Lo, Luo Ning and C All Stars. In February 2015 in Hong Kong, he did his first collaboration with tap dancer Tansei.
Scott Dodd (Bass)
Scott Dodd is Hong Kong’s best-known first-call jazz bassist.
