Synopsis
“The House of Bernarda Alba” is Federico Garcia Lorca’s last play, written the year he was killed at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The action of the play begins during the funeral of matriarch Bernarda Alba’s second husband, when she imposes an 8-year mourning period on her household, in accordance with her family tradition. Bernarda has 5 daughters, whom she has controlled inexorably… how will they survive these 8 years of further suffocation? And what is the cost of Bernarda Alba’s repression of her daughters’ freedom?
