Synopsis
When we face the screen, we lose ourselves in a world built from light and shadow. We see endless stories, countless lives, and universes beyond our own… all asking us to believe in the “possible within the impossible.” But when the credits roll, the real world is still there. Cinema feels so close, yet it exists in a different dimension altogether.
Its true power? It makes us look at our world again.
It starts with one person, one frame, and then it spreads. Where light hits, a thought ignites. It feels like a golden age has passed, while new technologies rewrite what it means to even make a film. The future is unclear.
But here, in this wasteland of a time, we still pick up our cameras.
Why? Because we believe film is a window to look out from, and a way to rebuild reality. We keep coming back to the cinema because we need to see what else a life could be.
We can't see the future yet. We can't go back.
But we still have the courage to record. The courage to watch.
And in this long, stretched-out present, the light from these stories can still pierce the darkness around us.
Farewells, reunions, life, death… these moments might be small. But when a lens focuses, and an audience watches, they get a chance to be seen.
So we won't wait for a lighthouse. We aren't looking for a path back.
To the wasteland, we answer with wildfire.
This year's WILDFIRE showcase brings together 12 new works from the MFA in Film, Television and Digital Media graduates, plus 2 award-winning films from our past. This is our reply to the times. Our proof, for everyone who still believes.
The full programme and screening details are coming soon. Until then, we'll see you in the dark—and know each other by the light we carry.
