Synopsis
The exhibition asks how architecture can sustain sense of places in the rapidly changing urban-rural environments of China. Facing challenges of large-scale multifunctionality and high-density demands, how can architecture moderate scale, establish relationships between individuals and clusters, and foster interactions between architectural landscape and natural environments? Courtyardism explores how courtyards as a cross-cultural prototype can be transformed into a multi-layered three-dimensional system of architectural urbanism and developed into a sectional design method for establishing effective
spatial strategies. Through a series of campus designs and reconstruction of village architecture, the exhibition highlights the dialectic and symbiotic relationships between city and village, high and low density, architecture and landscapes, conservation and innovation, wetland and settlements, amidstongoing urban-rural changes.
