Synopsis
The blues has significantly shaped many forms of modern music, including rock’n’roll, jazz and pop.
With deep roots in American history, particularly African-American history, the blues originated on Southern plantations in the 19th Century. Its inventors were slaves, ex-slaves and the descendants of slaves – African-American sharecroppers who sang as they toiled in the cotton and vegetable fields. It is generally accepted that the blues evolved from African spirituals, African chants, work songs, field hollers, rural fife and drum music, revivalist hymns and country dance music.
In three sets, this show seeks to “link the dots”, charting the evolution of the blues from its roots in the Mississippi Delta to today.

Whitemud Slide
Whitemud Slide is Rev. Michael, summoning the spirits of the Mississippi Delta with his National resonator guitar; and Brother Neil, prestidigitator of the ungentle art of slap-bass. Established in 2011, Hong Kong-based Whitemud Slide delivers raucous Delta-inspired acoustic blues that gets hips swinging and joints jumping.
Helter Skelter
In 2000, Vincent Lam brought together a group of musicians with the aim of injecting a young, exciting blues act into the Hong Kong music scene. After a few line-up changes, the band now consists of Vince on guitar and vocals, Hiroshi on guitar, Koya on bass and Jimi on drums.
A well known fixture on the live indie circuit, the band composes its own material, bringing a new edge to blues-based rock and pop. Their energetic blues interpretations, thumping rhythms and dynamic improvisations make an explosive combination. The electric chemistry and seamless communication among the band members bring a delightfully unexpected depth and complexity to their music, making Helter Skelter a must-see live act.
Just Soda
The newest kid on the block, Just Soda is making its debut at this show. Comprising seasoned rock and blues musicians, the band will entertain you with a wide range of post-50s blues-based from the Yardbirds to John Mayer.
Szechai Bluesman (vocals/guitar), Edward Chun (guitar), Calvin Wong (bass), Jon Lee (drums)
