Synopsis
Clarinetist Camellia Johnson and pianist Lai Bo-ling join forces to present a programme that will put you in the Christmas spirit! With arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and a re-imagined version of Bizet’s Carmen Fantasy (among other works), this performance will have you humming those gorgeous festive tunes in the run-up to the big day. They wish you a “clarinet Christmas”! Do come and enjoy a drink and hang out with them this on this delightful musical occasion.

Camellia Johnson, clarinet
Camellia Johnson is a graduate of the Royal College of Music in London. She won the June Emerson Launchpad prize in the college’s 2016 woodwind ensemble competition, and in the same year she performed with The Hong Kong New Orchestra. She has just released an album of clarinet quintets by Mozart and Brahms, in association with Studio Music Brightlingsea.
As an orchestral musician, Camellia has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and was the principal clarinet in the Suoni Dal Golfo Festival Orchestra based in Italy in the summer of 2018.
Lai Bo-ling, piano
Lai Bo-ling has performed extensively in the US, the UK, Europe, China, Macau and Hong Kong. In 2008, after being awarded first place in the Symphony in Life and Music Competition, she went on a concert tour with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. In 2010 she performed with that same orchestra in the “Beautiful Sunday Concert” at the Shenzhen Concert Hall. She was awarded Most Distinguished Musician and a Kabalevsky special mention in the IBLA World Competition in Italy (2012), and was a prize-winner in the MTNA and Pi Kappa Lambda Honours competition (2013).
She has a Bachelor of Music degree from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and a Master of Music degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Now back in Hong Kong, she maintains a busy schedule teaching and performing.
