Ms Clarissa Wang, piano
A Taiwanese pianist based in Hong Kong
Critically acclaimed Taiwanese pianist Clarissa Wang is one of the most talented pianists of her generation. She studied piano performance and music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In 1994 she performed in a concert series curated by music master Wu Jiza, and toured in Europe with world-renowned pianists Fu Cong and Chen Pi-hsien.
She is active in chamber music, choirs and opera accompaniment, has collaborated with the National Concert Hall Opera Studio and the Ya Yun Chamber Orchestra, and has appeared in a number of major festivals. An enthusiastic music educator, Clarissa taught at the Hinterbruehl School in Vienna and Christian College in Taiwan.
In 2017 Clarissa founded Andante Musica in Hong Kong to create an Asian cultural circle devoted to classical music, and to provide a platform for emerging Asian musicians. Recent projects by Andante Musica include an Asian tour by young Korean musician Chi Ho Han and a tour to Taiwan by the Diocesan Girls’ School.
Dr. Gloria Shih, piano
Director of the COS Instrumental Majors Program
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Gloria Shih is recognised for her diverse abilities as a pianist and a collaborative artist. She has worked with members of the Emerson String Quartet, members of the Meridian Arts Ensemble and members of the Metropolitan Opera, and has performed at such venues as Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall in New York City and Oji Hall in Tokyo. She has received critical acclaim for her performances throughout Asia, Europe and North America. As an active chamber musician, she founded the Gracieux Trio in 2003. The trio won rave reviews for its two CD albums and regularly gives concerts and master classes in Taiwan and Japan.
Gloria Shih holds a Master’s degree from the Mannes College of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University. Dr. Shih serves on the faculty of Hofstra University and the Children’s Orchestra Society.
