Jazz legend, saxophone virtuoso and Grammy-nominated artist Antonio Hart presents a public jazz workshop and performance. It’s open to jazz enthusiasts and musicians (no matter what instrument you play). This is a rare opportunity to learn about jazz from the source. Joining Hart onstage will be some of Hong Kong’s top professional players: Nate Wong on drums, Scott Dodd on bass and Jason Chan on piano.

Antonio Hart
Jazz alto saxophonist Antonio Hart has long been recognised as one of the most talented instrumentalists of his generation. In recent years, he has also been recognised as an important jazz educator. In his 20 years as a professional musician, he has performed and recorded with many jazz greats, ranging from Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Hargrove, Nancy Wilson, Nat Adderley and McCoy Tyner to Dave Holland.
Hart’s study of jazz began at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In his sophomore year, he became a Music Education Major, because he felt it was important to have a balance between music and academia. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Hart worked on a Master’s Degree at Queens College, City University of New York. After 12 years at Queens College, Hart was promoted to Full Professor.
His 1997 release, Here I Stand, earned Hart a 1997 Grammy nomination for “Best Jazz Instrumental Solo”. He has also been much in demand as a guest on over 100 recordings, and seven CDs as a leader. The latest is All We Need, released in 2004.
Hart also maintains an extensive performance schedule and continues to conduct workshops and clinics throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He feels very blessed to have the balance of teaching and travelling around the world. In his spare time he practises martial arts and listens to other styles of music for inspiration. Hart is constantly trying to honour his many teachers by continuing to study music and teach to the best of his ability.
