Synopsis

Jazz Friends Orchestra, a dynamic 20-piece ensemble of professional musicians, was founded by Floro Sernande Jr., a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Music.

The orchestra’s members have studied at a wide range of music colleges around the world, including Auckland University College of Music, The University of Hong Kong, Royal Northern College of Music UK, Purcell School of Music, The Royal College of Music, Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University, the University of the Philippines College of Music, The Harbor Performing Arts Academy NYC and Ballet Folklorico Cutumba (Santiago de Cuba).

These passionate musicians were inspired to get together and play modern big-band music, from the post bop, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian repertoire to straight-ahead jazz, world music, funk and rock.  Their influences include Big Phat Band; Earth, Wind and Fire; Arturo Sandoval; Buddy Rich; Gordon Goodwin and SWR Big Band.

Jazz Friends Orchestra aims to inspire other musicians, create more music, and keep the big-band vibe alive.
