Synopsis

A Mobius strip is a mysterious object: it’s a loop with only one surface, it looks three-dimensional but it has only one boundary, and mathematicians say it is “unorientable”.  Sounds a bit like music, right?

O’blue joins Brio and Medipella this year in their annual a cappella concert presented by Agnes Ho to showcase their journey on this auditory Mobius strip.  The repertoire includes Cantonese favourites, pop classics and barbershop songs.

This is a non-profit performance - all profits will go to Mother's Choice, a local charity serving pregnant teenagers and the many children without families. For more information, please visit https://www.motherschoice.org/en

Brio

…con Brio – (n.) with brilliance, fire, energy, spirit

Brio was founded in 2008 by a group of choral singing enthusiasts.  Since its inception, Brio has held eight concerts, including the “BR10 – Brio 10th Anniversary Concert” in 2018, celebrating the members’ 10 happy years of making music together.

Brio has performed in numerous public and private events.  In 2013, Brio composed and recorded the jingles for “Music is All Around”, a radio programme of the Community Involvement Broadcasting Service of Radio Television Hong Kong.  In May 2014, Brio performed in the weekly “Afternoon Music Time” show at the Shenzhen Concert Hall.  In 2014, Brio was selected to sing in the a cappella master class of the world-renowned King’s Singers and was acclaimed for their performance.  Brio’s members attended the King’s Singers Summer School in the UK in 2015 and 2017, and organised the Purple Vocals Vocal Ensemble Workshop by Mr Paul Phoenix in 2015.

O’blue

O’blue is one of the few all-male a cappella groups in Hong Kong.  Their unique sound showcases warm and mellow male-voice harmony and a wide variety of music genres, especially jazz, R&B and classical music.  All of the group’s members used to be members of the highly respected Diocesan Boys’ School choir, which has won awards in its category at the World Choir Games, over several years, in several different countries.

Since it was founded in 2013, O’blue has sung on radio programmes, at shopping malls and at major events such as the wedding of Liu Xuan, a former artistic gymnast from China; the annual dinner of China Life; the Sedan Chair Charity Run and the Stanley Plaza A Cappella Festival.

Medipella

Medipella is a combination of the words “medical” and “a cappella”, because the group’s members are medical doctors who love to share music through a cappella singing.  The group was founded in 2015 and staged its first fundraising concert in that same year.  Since then, they’ve participated in many concerts, singing songs in a variety of genres, including pop, jazz and rock in a contemporary style.
