Western District and SC Productions present ‘Northern Lights': an intimately arranged selection of works by contemporary Nordic artists and composers.
Transcend the frenetic pace of the city with an evening of magical chamber music from some of the leading lights in Nordic contemporary composition, performed by a Hong Kong-based collective of professional musicians and amateur players.
The show includes a full performance of Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds' 2011 album Living Room Songs, selected extracts from the Danish String Quartet's 2014 release Wood Works, a unique twist on an A-ha classic, and more...
Olafur Arnalds is a BAFTA award-winning composer and multi-instrumentalist who is widely acclaimed for his distinctive fusion of contemporary classical, ambient and techno. Arnalds produced the largely acoustic Living Room Songs over the course of a week in his flat in Reykjavik, one track per day, with friends and even family members contributing to the live daily recordings. The resulting album is a short, moving, intimate work described as "a gorgeous listen from start to finish" (Sputnik Music).
Western District is a vibrant chamber music collective with a contemporary take on classical music, described as "hip," "funky," and "unconventional" with an "eclectic repertoire” (TimeOut, HK Magazine). Since forming in 2014, Western District has sold out Hong Kong’s hottest music venues, had its innovative tango show featured on CNN, and been nominated in the Best Band category at the HKELD theatre awards.
