Synopsis

Jam It Up! Is an annual a cappella event hosted by the Diocesan School Old Boys’ Association (DSOBA) Music and its own all-male a cappella group, Il DBroS.  Jam It Up! started in 2014 with an inaugural show at the legendary Backstage, and continued in 2015 with a Crossover jam featuring the Harvard Krokodiloes at the Fringe Club.  Now, Il DBroS shares a cappella joy with its next-door-neighbour charm, powered by generations of musical talent and the heritage of Diocesan Boys’ School (DBS).  For JAM IT UP! 2016, Il DBroS once again proudly hosts Harvard University’s oldest a cappella singing group, the famed Harvard Krokodiloes, and welcomes the exciting University of Toronto Hong Kong Alumni group.

Il DBroS

Founded in 2012, the Diocesan School Old Boys' Association's (DSOBA) official all-male a cappella singing group Il DBros (pronounced “eel” “dee” “bros”) performs a broad spectrum of songs, from lively classic Western tunes to unforgettable Cantonese pop songs by iconic giants from the 80’s and 90’s.  正所謂,義大利有IL DIVO,亞皆老街有IL DBROS.  The group has spread musical fun at private events for its alma mater, and in shows at Lan Kwai Fong, Stanley Plaza and the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre.  Over the years, members have included vocal and a cappella enthusiasts from the Asia-Choir-Games Champion DSOBA Choir and alumni from established US groups such as the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones, the Harvard Krokodiloes, the Indiana University Singing Hoosiers, the Dartmouth Dodecaphonics, etc.  Il DBros is the a cappella platform for Old Boys, helping to support the growth of small vocal groups and drive bonding through vocal entertainment.

Harvard Krokodiloes

The Krokodiloes (or Kroks for short) are Harvard University's oldest a cappella singing group, comprisingf 12 tuxedo-clad Harvard undergraduate men who tour the United States and the world singing tunes from the Great American Songbook and beyond.  In addition to performing over 150 domestic concerts during the school year, the Kroks embark each winter and summer on tours that see them perform at sold-out concert venues around the globe.  On its annual 10-week, 3-to-5-continent Summer World Tour, the Kroks have done public and private performances in many different contexts, for example at the world’s finest hotels, such as the Pudong Shangri-la in Shanghai and the Hotel Seiyo Ginza in Tokyo (in exchange for accommodation), at the world’s finest restaurants, such as the Grotto Bay Resort in Bermuda (in exchange for meals), and at some of the world’s finest venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House.

The Blue Vibes

The Blue Vibes, established in 2014, is a mixed-voice vocal ensemble composed of a group of dedicated singers who are alumni from University of Toronto (“UofT”) currently living in Hong Kong.  With an emphasis on the art of singing a cappella, the group also performs a diverse repertoire of songs from all musical genres.  Following its debut at the University of Toronto (HK) Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner, the group continues to perform for its alma mater at events in Hong Kong throughout the year, and also performs at concerts presented by various charity organisations, associations and vocal groups.  Named after the official color of the University, blue, the mission of the ensemble is to perform quality choral works with vocal excellence to provide a platform for sharing rich music experience with audience and friends. The Blue Vibes also aims to cultivate bonding between alumni and reunite music enthusiasts from the UofT while enjoying the fun of making music! The chorus group looks forward to finding more ways to take our passion for singing into the community and bring good vibes to music lovers in Hong Kong.
