Synopsis

Trio Soundscapism, founded in 2014, fuses the creativity and personalities of three highly individual artists with different musical backgrounds and geographical locations.  In this show at the Fringe Club, they’ll launch their debut EP, featuring original music written by the band’s members. They’ll perform music from the EP and also newly composed tunes.

When pianist Alex Ho, bass player Tsang Tak Hong and drummer Ian Chang make music together, the best description is “soundscapism” - a landscape of sound created by layers of tone colour, the result of the spontaneity and creativity of the trio.  With influences from jazz, rock, RnB, pop and experimental music, their music features the distinctive flavours and personalities brought to the group by each member due to their varied backgrounds.

Currently based in London, Alex Ho has performed in some of London’s most important venues and festivals, including the Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre and the EFG London Jazz Festival.  As a member of the critically acclaimed British pop-rock band Magazine Gap, Alex tours countries including the UK, the US, Japan, Ireland, China (Hong Kong) and Singapore, and has performed at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

One of Hong Kong's most well-regarded bassists, Tsang Tak Hong began his career in rock, switching to jazz music in his early twenties. Since then, Hong has established himself as musician’s musician with a charismatic stage presence, performing in jazz festivals around the world, including Seoul, Krakow, Vietnam, Bangkok, Sri Lanka, Guangzhou, Taichung and Hong Kong.  He performed at the 2014 JZ Jazz Festival Shanghai, the largest jazz festival in China, with renowned jazz drummer David Haynes.  Hong is an endorsee of Sandberg Guitars.

New York-based drummer Ian Chang, still in his twenties, enjoys a busy and prolific career that takes him to world-class venues around the world, including the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York and the Olympic Stadium in Rome.  He is currently touring and recording with a number of bands, including Son Lux, Body Language, Landlady, Matthew Dear, Brazos, People Get Ready and Father Figures.  Ian is a C&C Custom Drums artist.
