Synopsis

“If jazz is the truest form of American music, then Edward Kennedy ‘Duke’ Ellington is the greatest jazz giant who ever lived, injecting his heart and soul into jazz to give birth to this great American artform.  Our love for this man and his music takes us on an eternal search for the true meaning of music, regardless of whether it’s called jazz or something else.  We love music.  We adore jazz music.  And of all the possible types of jazz, we play nothing but the music composed and arranged by Duke Ellington, the true legend.”

The Happy-Go-Lucky Big Band, led by Kenny Matsuura, is a group of young and enthusiastic musicians who all love the music of great jazz composer/arranger Duke Ellington.  The band has the traditional format of a jazz orchestra, with 17 instruments: 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, a bass, drums, a guitar and a piano.  The fabulous Elaine Liu sings tasteful jazz standards.
