Synopsis

Simao fa is a technique of fine Chinese brushwork that is usually done on rice paper or silk to depict the fur of birds or animals.  The lines drawn with an extremely fine brush convey a sense of the lightness of the fur.  The technique of ceramic drawing is similar to that of painting on rice paper or silk, and the glaze used in the drawing does not fade after the ceramic item is fired at high temperature.  So what happens when ceramic meets Simao fa?

In this workshop, you will learn to use underglaze instead of ink to create the impression of layers of fur on a ceramic plate, and you will feel the healing power brought about by the repeated movements as you draw the fur.
