Synopsis

Are you tired of typical Cantopop music, and are you looking for a change?  But is it possible to combine Chinese music and jazz music?  And how can dance collaborate with jazz?

Presented by the Fringe Club as part of the new “Jazz-Go-Central, Jazz-Go-Fringe” project – Phase II, Jazz + is a series of cross-over performances between jazz and other genres that will happen every month from October 2018 to May 2019.

The finale of our Jazz+ series features local a cappella group VSing and the Patrick Lui Quartet.  Anna Lo, alto singer with VSing, and Patrick Lui have re-arranged and transformed some Chinese and Western pop songs into the styles of ballads, Swing and Bossa Nova.  These new interpretations by a cappella singers and the Patrick Lui Quartet will definitely make for a refreshing and exciting evening!

VSing

VSing

VSing is a professional six-member a cappella group based in Hong Kong.  All rising musicians in their own right, the members aim to add a fresh and exciting new voice to the growing Hong Kong a cappella scene.  They also hope to connect with the wider community with high-quality a cappella music, and by promoting this burgeoning musical genre to a wider audience, they hope to grow together as musicians and artists as well.

To emphasise a cappella music’s unique quality of using just the human voice, they have chosen “吾聲” as the Chinese name of the group, which means “our voices”.  VSing very much looks forward to exploring and discovering new possibilities of the bare human voice, and they hope you will join them on this exciting journey.
