Synopsis

Saxophonist Dr. Chemie Ching, joined by the pianist Cherry Tsang, will present a recital with a diverse program and an artistry that is rarely found in Hong Kong.

On the program are Fantaisie Sur un Theme Original by Jules Demersseman, Fuzzy Bird Sonata by Takashi Yoshimatsu and Sonata in A major for Violin and Piano by César Franck.  Demersseman’s piece (1860) is a traditional show piece presented in the form of theme and variations.  By contrast, Yoshimatsu’s sonata (1995) mixes classical music, jazz and Japanese folk music.  Franck’s sonata (1886) is a staple in the violin repertoire, and has been transcribed for baritone saxophone and piano.

Hong Kong-born saxophonist Dr. Chemie Ching earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and has performed with a number of local professional ensembles, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia.
