Synopsis

Listening to Bach’s music is about a state of being.  While Beethoven conjures up the improbable imagery of a hero’s struggles against fate, Bach’s music conjures up... the present, which is not really conjuring of any sort but simply uncovering something that is already there as we speak.  For sure, society needs the kind of hope offered by Beethoven, but we also need to take a moment and remember who we are, and that is what Bach’s music can do.  Come to the Bach Jukebox, pick your favourites, or discover new ones.

The pieces on offer on 5 June are all keyboard works:

24 Preludes and Fugues (Book 2)
Two-part and Three-part Inventions
The Art of Fugue (1-11)
Stephen Hung’s Bach Transcriptions volume 1

The concert will also include an in-depth discussion of the 5th English Suite (E minor), BWV 810

Please contact the organiser if you want to hear something that’s not on this list.
